Swimming in the warm azure of Cocoa Bay, Barbuda.

Looking west you can see the low-lying south coast in the left of the picture. The island does not rise above 59 meters (in what they call "The Highlands"). Antigua boasts 365 beaches, Barbuda seems to have one, going all the way around.

The two biggest exports are sand, which they realise they have to stop before it causes too much damage, and lobsters which they’d rather smuggle to Guadeloupe than sell in Antigua, for the better prices.

The sad truth is that Barbuda was leased to the Coderington family in 1685 and used as a depot for trading slaves. Perfect, there was nowhere to escape to.

Modern Barbuda is 170km2 with 1500 people, one village, only 3 low-key hotels. They want to keep it that way and live their simple, largely self-sufficient lives in peace.
