A type I diabetic since the age of 7, White applied for the special grant through the American Diabetes Association, which partners with Core Fitness Solution to provide the opportunity to a qualified applicant living with diabetes that could not otherwise afford it. The program costs upwards of $ 10,000, but Darlene, who lives about two hours south in Cape Coral, won’t have to pay a single penny. “I’m ready for this amazing journey!” she says.
Core has participated in and sponsored events with the American Diabetes Association since its inception over five years ago. The company champions the cause of diabetes prevention and helps those with type I diabetes manage their disease by creating healthier eating and exercise habits as well as addressing the emotional and psychological components of permanent lifestyle change. This is exactly what Darlene will experience over the next four weeks.
Core is a live-in fitness and wellness camp offering a holistic approach to getting healthy and changing lifestyles for those struggling with maintaining a healthy weight, managing their diabetes or simply maintaining a balanced life. This unique residential program focuses on all aspects of lifestyle change and includes accommodations, healthy chef-prepared meals, nutrition coaching, psychological counseling and an intense workout schedule of four to five hours daily.
Linda Mullins, owner of Core Fitness Solutions, says, “This is our second annual grant that we have awarded and we are going to continue each year. I’m so thankful to be able to offer such a life-changing program for a well-deserving recipient. Darlene White was chosen from many deserving applicants.”
Mullins continues, “We are looking forward to helping her lead a healthier life. After all, that is why National Diabetes Month was created — to help diabetics realize that there are resources available to help conquer this disease.”
