Toronto, Ontario to host the Indian “Oscars”

EG LiVE is pleased to announce that its efforts over the last 3 years have been succesful in bringing the world renown International Indian Film Academy’s IIFA awards and related events to The Province of Ontario in June of 2011.

“From the moment we first brought this concept to the City and Province in 2007, there was immense excitement,” say Moe Jiwan and Davinder Gurm, Directors of EG LiVE. “It has taken a long time and numerous meetings, however the ‘Unforgettable’ event that we held in Toronto (July of 2008) was an important precursor to an event of this magnitude”

The announcement came this morning from the International Indian Film Academy in Mumbai; Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty said he was “thrilled.”

“With so many film buffs living in Ontario, Indian film stars and executives will feel right at home,” said Mr. McGuinty, who is in Mumbai.

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) is an organization dedicated to promoting Indian Cinema beyond India and placing it on an international platform by fostering exchange and interaction to enhance business opportunities. IIFA started off as a one-night awards presentation ceremony in 2000, and over the following years has grown into a four-day intercultural network strengthening opportunity. Unofficially known as the “Indian Oscars”

Each Year the IIFA weekend and awards enchant the world from an exotic locale. The culture, the colors, the locals, the flavors all become an inseparable part of the magic of IIFA giving each IIFA event its own unique experience. Over a period of four days, IIFA the host country with, film premieres, film festivals, parties global business forums, celebrity special events, press conferences, and the most glamorous awards ceremony watched by fans all over the world.

From its inception in the year 2000 IIFA has traveled the globe and now in 2011 will come to North America for the very first time!

Veteran Indian Movie Star and IIFA Brand Ambassador, Amitabh Bachchan was recently in Toronto and met with senior Government representatives to discuss the upcoming bid.

THE IIFA JOURNEY TO CANADA

•January 2007 – EG LiVE presents concept of hosting IIFA to Municipal Representatives.

•February 2007 – Official IIFA Delegation Tour arranged by EG LiVE. Visit to The City of Toronto and The Province of Ontario on a 10 day fact finding mission, meeting with The Mayor Of Toronto, Senior Ministers and various other Bid Committee strategists.

•March 2007 – EG LiVE Delegation to IIFA UK Curtain Raiser.

•June 2007 – City of Toronto and Province of Ontario representatives visit IIFA 2007 in Yorkshire UK (hosted by EG LiVE)

•August 2007 – IIFA representatives meet with Premier McGuinty at EG LiVE Press conference, Royal York Hotel, Toronto.

•Sept 2007 – IIFA Brand Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan meets with Provincial representatives in Toronto.

•June 2008 – City of Toronto and Province of Ontario representatives visit IIFA 2008 in Bangkok

•July 2008 – IIFA Brand Ambassador, Amitabh Bachchan, meets with Federal Ministers during EG LiVE “Unforgettable” Event, in Toronto.

•November 2009 – IIFA representatives meet with Mayor Miller.

•December 2009 – Premier McGuinty announces IIFA 2011 in Mumbai, India.
