Horrible Book!,
I’ve been to Eleuthera five times (‘nuf said that I just love the island and people) and I was really looking forward to getting this book to clue me in to more beaches. What a flop. I’ve seen a book called The Beach Book, Eleuthera edition by Bret Sigillo and Gunnar Ek at one of the cottages I rented and it looked fabulous, laid out like a real book that can actually be read without trying to pick your way through stupid cartoons superimposed on text. Wish I’d spent the money on that instead, it even has a map (which has to be purchased separately).
Come to Eleuthera with an adventurous spirit and friendly smile, which will be readily returned. The beaches are amazing (especially on the Atlantic side) and the water is so clear and warm with those spectacular teal and blue colors you won’t believe it. If you’re looking for resorts and casinos and big night life, best head to Freeport or Nassu. Eleuthera is away from it all, for relaxing, beach walking, snorkeling, reading, and relaxing the whole time you’re there. Remember that it’s an island, and you won’t have all the selection and timeliness that you do elsewhere. Eleuthera is for lovers. Enjoy!

Poor Design, but A Must-Have for Anyone Vacationing in Eleuthera,
We just returned from a week in Eleuthera and this book was our bible. There would have been NO WAY to find all the fantastic beaches without it. Eleuthera is raw and beautiful. To find most places you need references to landmarks, which this book has. Again, I cannot stress enough how important this book was to our understanding all that Eleuthera had to offer.
That said, this book needs a good redesign. They use a strange system of cartoonish icons that are set underneath the text, making it difficult to read. They should hire a good graphic designer that understands information design. They use a lot of GPS coordinates to denote locations, which is fine if you have a gps system. But I would have included actual maps in the book. Luckily, I used Google Earth to locate the beaches and print out maps before I left on the trip. So although I wished it had a better design, it was still absolutely essential to our getting the most out of this jewel of an island.
