Too many stories and plots that are left kind of unresolved, June 7, 2013
    By

This review is from: Ray of Light: The Days of Redemption Series, Book Two (Paperback)
This is book two of the series Days of Redemption by Shelly Shepard Gray.

    Why I Enjoyed this book:

I did enjoy the uniqueness of the situation that played in this family. Each person seemed to be struggling with something, and it was kind of interesting to see this play out in an Amish community. It feels like a different point of view that is welcomed when reading Amish books.

The Romance playing between Amanda and Roman is sweet, but what I really enjoyed was the inclusion of Regina Amanda’s daughter. I loved that Author Gray included Regina as a key part into the romance between her mom and Roman. I thought it brought her book into a more personal level plucking at the heart strings. It was believable seeing Regina and Roman’s family interacting together. I fell in love with the prospect of having this bundle of joy and energy rejuvenate Roman’s family.

Some Awkwardness in Reading this book:

I felt that the first few chapters were strikingly confusing for me. There was an influx of characters introduced so quickly with very little personality that I had a hard time keeping characters straight. Pushing through the first few chapters were challenging because of this. However as I read a few more chapters, I slowly became somewhat familiar to the characters. I considered writing them all on paper to keep them all straight! It was a little frustrating for me as a reader.

I know it was meant to be read with the first book, but I just want to give my perspective that there was a lot going on at the beginning that felt like I had hit the ground running.

As I did get into the book, the author moves into several different love stories happening and developing. I was intrigued and interested between the problems and stories between Viola and Edward; Peter and Marie; Aaron and Lovina. But it felt like there was just too much going on that Gray was divided between developing each of these minor plot to their fullest. The main love story between Roman and Amanda suffered because of all the different characters having their own struggles and situations. There could have been more richness between Roman and Amanda, instead I felt that Roman was hotheaded and shallow. Amanda in my eye felt young and immature at times. I felt that both characters had fallen in love, and I do cheer for them, but wished that their love for each other read more meaningful. Instead I felt that it fell flat and lacked depth and maturity.

    Conclusion:

Overall an okay read for me, and will pick up the first book to see if that would shed the confusion for me. I am intrigued with the cliff hanger at the end and Viola and Edward relationship so I do anticipate me picking up the next book.

This story picks up where book one left off. All the family drama in the Keim familly has having proven to be more than Roman Keim wanted to deal with. He decided to take a well deserved vacation going from ice and snow of Ohio to the sunny beaches in Florida. His cousins have a condo right on the beach and they have invited him to come spend a week. It has been a healing experience for him. He is not a very outgoing person but since a lovely young woman, in the condo next door, caught his eye his world has become a whirlwind of emotions. Which is very good. The woman as well as her darling little four year old girl that have taken up a special spot in his heart.

Amanda Yoder is a widow of two years and she too is taking a well deserved vacation. The minute Roman Keim walk up to her on the beach he was like a ray of light. She could feel herself healing because of this handsome caring man. He was not only a healing balm for her but more so for her daughter, Regina. Regina did not trust anyone but to her surprise opened up like a flower to the sun. Amanda does not want to let go of her deceased husbands memory yet she is drawn to the possibility of a new love in her future.

The author writes of healing for so many of the characters in this book. Giving up the past to God and and going forward for the plans he has for them. Some of the characters cling to the pain of the past not so willing to give up what is eating them alive making them bitter and depressed. Why is it so hard to let go of the past? My heart ached for all the characters and was glad to see the healing process in all of them take place. My favorite characters in this book were Regina and Elsie they had more strength than all of them in the end.

    I highly recommend this book.

    ABOUT THE BOOK
Bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray brings inspirational romance to life in this sweet tale of love in the Amish community, Ray of Light, the second installment of her Days of Redemption series. Roman Keim just wants a break from the family drama at his snowy Ohio home when he heads to an Amish snowbird community in Florida. There he meets Amanda Yoder and her daughter Regina who soon are warming his heart. But will Roman return to Ohio or will he stay and help the young widow embrace a second chance at love? The author of the series Sisters of the Heart and Seasons of Sugarcreek, Shelley Shepard Gray delivers an honest, tender love story in Ray of Light, featuring the challenges of faith, family, and romance.

This book is the 2nd book from The Days of Redemption series, I have not read the first one but this one captured my attention at the very beginning. We are greeted with everyone in the Keim family gathered around Grandmother Lovina as she starts to read a letter from her grandson Roman who is away in Pinecraft, Florida. While on vacation in Florida Roman begins to notice his neighbor that just happens to be Amish. He learns through town gossip that it is possible she is a widow and has a daughter.

Soon the rumors are put to rest and Roman learns that everything he has heard is in fact true, much to his delight. Well, Roman’s cousin Beth decides to introduce him to the girl he appears to be so fond of; Amanda. She isn’t too interested in him at first. I find this very interesting to see how this all plays out especially since Roman feels like he has a somewhat boring life and very little to offer.

This book, even though it is second in the series can pretty much stand alone.
Although I would love to read the first one. This is a perfect book for sitting on the porch and having a relaxing and enjoyable time in reading.

I recommend this book for teenagers and up!!

This book was sent to me for free for my honest review by Litfuse.

May God continue to bless you Shelley in writing more books for His Glory. In Jesus Name Amen.
