Another Huge Disappointment, November 19, 2015

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
I’ve been using nearly every version of Quicken. Since 2013, they have become very disappointing. My 2015 version crashes nearly every time I open and update my accounts. I was hopeful the 2016 version would fix these application crashes. Upon conversion of the 2015 data file and beginning the account update, the new version crashed again. This happens about 70% of the time and requires a restart after the update and crash.

If you are looking for greater performance and fewer bugs, pass by this version too. Another full price upgrade with very little functional improvements and nagging application crashes. Bill Pay is about the only new feature.

Update: 12/2/2015 Well, I tried again. I uninstalled, cleaned, reinstalled, downloaded, rebooted, in just about every sequence possible. It just gets worse and worse. Intuit (Quicken) reports they are working on the problem (check the Quicken Community), yet there is no clear resolution.

No Use In Upgrading, November 22, 2015

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
I have been a Quicken RPM user since the 2008 version. I upgraded to the 2011 version because I was hoping they would support automatic downloading from my bank in it. Since they didn’t in the 2008 version. Nooooope.

I got the 2013 version for the ability to attach scans to my transactions. I got that version right after it came out and it was buggy as heck. They eventually worked those bugs out in the 2015 version.

I got the 2015 version only for the mobile app. However, after buying it, I found out that the mobile version is severely limited in what you can do with it. About all you can do is view and enter transactions. You can’t upload any accounts except for bank accounts (no creditor / depreciation accounts); and you can’t access ANY of the rental management features. That’s wierd, I thought this was supposed to be the RENTAL PROPERTY MANAGER version!

This year, I decided to go ahead and purchase the 2016 version for the Bill Linking feature where it automatically downloads your bills from the billers website. What a big mistake! 2 of my billers actually work with this feature. Most of them aren’t even listed when you go to search for them. The rest of the ones that are listed simply don’t work. Sometimes it doesn’t recognize the username/password (yes, I know I am entering them correctly). Sometimes it says that their website has changed and hasn’t been updated. And with PayPal, it asks me for an “Access Code”. I called PayPal and they know nothing about this. You would think that since this was the only “upgrade” in this version, they could have at least gotten it right.

Just as soon as I verify that my converted files or backups can still be opened in my 2015 version, I’ll be calling Amazon for a refund. This version has absolutely no added value. I guess they figure since they’re trying to sell the Quicken brand, they don’t want to put anymore development money into it. Very disappointing.

Not Ready for Prime Time, November 23, 2015

Too Much Screen Time (Michigan) –

I’ve been a quicken user since 1998 and have used this product nearly every day for nearly 20 years. Despite a few persistent and glaring bugs it has served me well. My last version was Home & Business 2014 which worked reasonably well. It even tolerated running in a virtual machine on my MacBook pro. Since the Mac version of Quicken does not have the features I use, I have to run a Windows virtual machine on my MacBook and run Quicken under that. So far so good. I decided to make the jump to RPM 2016 this year to better manage a couple of rental properties. Right out of the box I could see that I was in trouble. Quicken would hang more often than not, requiring a task manager “end task”. I finally figured out that it no longer tolerates having its data files located on something other than drive C: When it doesn’t hang it also crashes frequently. After several hours of work, I managed to enter a couple of transactions and get a few transactions converted to what it expects for a rental property. Not a good use of time. I spent 2 hours in a chat session with customer support and, while the person was nice, she was unable to solve anything. Any step forward just revealed a new problem and I finally just asked for a refund of the upgrade price. I hope that later versions will fix some of the problems because when 2014 turns into a pumpkin a year from now, I will need to do something.
