You don’t have to be an USC fan,
Steve Bisheff, the author, is considered to be the dean of sportswriters in the Southern California area and is an USC graduate. He has been granted remarkable access by the subject of the book. It is both a character study of Pete Carroll and a diary of the 2008 season straight from the locker room. The relationships between Carroll and his players and assistant coaches, both present and former, are explored thoroughly in a warts and all type of writing. For me, some of the revelations in this book are jaw-dropping and can lead both the casual and avid USC football fan to have a greater understanding of what makes Pete Carroll tick. The book also outlines what steps Carroll has taken along the way which shaped his coaching philsophy and the individuals who contributed to what it takes to be the head coach at a storied program such as USC. However, you do not have to be a USC fan to enjoy the book. You merely have to be a football fan.
Is Pete Carroll the greatest coach of the modern college football era? Or, has he just been blessed with outstanding players? After reading this book, you will feel that you are qualified to pass judgement.
