This member-hosted event supports two local charities, St Petersburg Free Clinic and the Daystar Life Center. The total amount raised of $ 152,000 far exceeded the goal of $ 122,000. The annual four-day event, which was led this year by Jack and Barbara Haining, includes various activities for donors such as a cruise on member boats, a tennis tournament, a golf tournament and a dinner. The dinner was attended by over 240 donors as well as Beth Houghton, Executive Director of the St Petersburg Free Clinic, Jane Walker, Executive Director of the Daystar life center and City Councilman Steve Kornell. Councilman Kornell presented the Club with a proclamation from the St Petersburg City Council honoring the Club for its efforts.

According to Jack and Barbara Haining, “The members of Isla are some of the most generous, giving people we know. Not only do they support this event, but many of them are also volunteers at the Clinic and Daystar.”

The “Play for Hunger” event began in 1991 with a group of tennis players raising $ 1,100. Over the past 22 years, the event has expanded to include all areas of the Club and has raised over $ 1.4 million.
